abstract = "Due to the technological advancementes in the area of topographic
data acquisition and the consequent reduction of costs in the
acquisition of data through orbital remote sensing, the
application of these products has been increasing in the most
diverse areas of engineering, especially in roadway and railway
infrastructure projects. Unlike other countries, where continous
programs of cartographical updates and DSM and DTM acquisition
take place aiming to support infrastructure projects, Brasil does
not have any governmental initiatives in order to comply with
market demands for medium and small scale topographical data. The
present research aims to stablish an statistical comparison of
altimetric data, as well as compare the earthmoving volumes and
analyze the morphology of digital terrain models obtained through
different data acquisition methods in an specific area of study
and geometric project of a prototype railway. The altimetric data
were collected through conventional topography, laser scanning and
remote sensing (SRTM, TOPODATA, ASTER GDEM V2 e WorldDEM). Thus, a
study was done on a 5.1km railway segment leading to the
conception of both a horizontal and a vertical alignment, based on
the design guidelines recommended by the standards of DNIT, as
well as the terrain data framework analysis accordingly to the
                         standards of cartographic accuracy.",
